Loretta Cloretta Hofland, 98, of Northwood passed away at MercyOne Hospital in Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 27 at 1:30 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Lyle, Minnesota, with Rev. Scott Meyer officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mona, Iowa. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, September 26 from 5:00 to 7:00 at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in Northwood.

Loretta was born on June 3rd 1921 to Carl and Nettie (Halverson) Stromley in Worth County, Iowa. She was next to the oldest of 13. Family meant a lot to Loretta and she loved to tell stories and share all the memories of growing up in such a big family.

She married Ira Hofland on May 17, 1944. Loretta was the mother of three children Jean, Jim and Ronald. They raised their family on the farm near Lyle, MN. They worked hard farming the land, milking cows and raising hogs.

Loretta enjoyed spending time with family. She was the best grandma. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing and being active in her church. She enjoyed creating many beautiful things from crochet. She was also talented artist. She loved to draw and paint. She leaves behind many creations to remember he by.

She and Ira moved to Northwood when they could no longer remain on the farm, then eventually to the Lutheran Retirement Home. Where Ira passed away in 2012. Loretta was a favorite at the home. She had an easy going, fun loving personality. She thought a lot of the aides and one special cleaning lady. Those who knew Loretta, loved Loretta. She will be missed by her family and friends.

Loretta was preceded in death by her: husband, Ira; parents, Carl and Nettie Stromley; parents-in-law Ibert and Laura Hofland; three brothers, Orville, Carl, Jr. and Kenny; three sisters, Rose, Ruth and Gladys; and a sister-in-law LoRetta Hayden.

She is survived by: daughter Jean (Gary) Harwig of Grafton, IA; son, Jim (Christine) Hofland of Winthrop, IA and Ronald Hofland of Cedar Rapids, IA; grandchildren, Scott (Tammy) Hartwig of Wisconsin, Todd (Jenn) Hartwig of Wisconsin, Tammy (Tim) Charlson of Grafton, IA, Shiela (Steve) Yates of South Dakota, Christopher (Kristin) Hofland of Colorado, Jeremy (Ivy) Hofland of Withrop, IA, Jason (April) Hofland of Winthrop, IA, Heather Hofland of Withrop, IA Brandon Hofland of Iowa; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
