Fay Lavonne Strouf, 89, of St. Ansgar, Iowa, lost her battle with cancer and passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville, Iowa.
Fay Lavonne (Read) Strouf was born March 21, 1930 in Ledyard, Iowa, to Merwin and Leona (Hamilton) Read. She was the oldest of 11 siblings. She graduated from Lyle High School in 1947. Fay was united in marriage to Norman R. Strouf on December 15, 1947. Together they had five children. They later divorced.
Fay lived her entire life in the Mona, IA area and was a lifelong member of Mona Lutheran Church. She worked at Burghard Egg Produce and then for Hormel Foods from which she retired.
Fay was the strong and loving matriarch of the family. She was greatly loved by her grandchildren and they loved spending time with their Grandma Tudy. Fay loved to garden both vegetables and flowers and was famous for her dill pickles.
Fay was preceded in death by her Father, Merwin, Mother, Leona, brother, Merwin Jr (Sonny) Read, infant sister Phyllis, brother-in-law, Leonard Ehmke and granddaughter Mandy Mullenbach.
Survivors include her 5 children, Cheryl Jones of Mona, IA, Monte (Diane) of Austin, MN, Darcy (Darlene) of Lyle, MN, Wesley of Otranto, IA, and Arlen of Mona, IA; 9 siblings, Betty Nedderson of Austin, MN, Joyce (Otto) Duren of Lyle, MN, Marilyn (Ron) Reuter of Austin, MN, Bernice (Walt) Konken of Austin, MN, Sharon Ehmke of Waltham, MN, Shirley (Duane) Jendersee of Austin, MN, Bonnie (Phil) Block of Oakdale, MN, Jerry Read of Austin, MN,and Sandy (Curt) Olsen of Del Rio, TX; sister-in-law, Gloria Read of Woodbury, MN; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of life will be held at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at 11:00 am with lunch to follow.
Burial at Grandview Cemetery, Austin, Minnesota.
