Gladys Helen (Carrison) Putnam, age 98, of Osage, died Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society of St. Ansgar.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage, with Rev. Bryan Odeen officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Gladys was born March 25, 1921, in Osage, the daughter of Clinton and Ida Mary (Barker) Carrison. She graduated from Osage High School in 1938, and from Gates Business College in 1940. Gladys married Royden Putnam on January 29, 1944, at the First Lutheran Church in Waterloo. They farmed near Arlington, and in 1953, they purchased and moved to a farm near Little Cedar.

In 1991, they moved to Osage. Gladys had worked as a secretary at Cooperative Services Company in Waterloo and as an aide at Mitchell County Home Health Care in Osage. She was a member of the Elizabeth Circle at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the Live and Learn Club in Little Cedar. Gladys put together many quilts and crocheted many afghans and lap robes. She enjoyed embroidery and working on crossword puzzles.

Gladys is survived by her children, Kenneth (Janet) Putnam of Osage, Kathryn (Michael) Tosel of Mason City, Duane (Alice) Putnam of Wake Forest, North Carolina, Derrel (Nancy) Putnam of Ankeny, and Darla (Craig) DeForest of Mason City; seven grandchildren, Melynda (Michael) McKelvey, Michelle (Jeff) Wendel, Emily Hartkopp, Raela (Rob) Eland, Kristen Putnam, Sydni Putnam, and Kaela (Ron) Gillette; twelve great-grandchildren and one due in May; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Royden Putnam in 2011; a brother, Harold Carrison; three sisters, Bertha Mitchell, Viola Smolik and Doris Hoisington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
