Irene “Patty” Michels, age 88, of New Haven, died Monday March 25, 2019, at the Faith Home in Osage.

Cremation has taken place. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Irene Michels was born June 15, 1930, near St. Ansgar, the daughter of Rene and Martha (Lievrouw) Pattyn. She attended schools in St. Ansgar and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1948.

Irene was united in marriage to Kenneth Michels on August 25, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. She was a homemaker and retired as a school lunch cook from the Osage Junior High School. Irene was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies included collecting antiques, cross-stitching, bowling, and gardening. Irene enjoyed bus trips and going to casinos with Ken.

Irene is survived by her eight children, Ron (Dorothy) Michels of Whitehall, Montana, Tom Michels of Bloomington, Minnesota, Connie (Alan) Henninger of Payson, Arizona, Dave (Marie) Michels of Clive, Mary (Mark) Low of Osage, John (Ann) Michels of Osage, Joe (Gale) Michels of Cedar Falls, and Mark Michels of Rochester, Minnesota; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Leona Kleckner of St. Ansgar and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth in 2018; two sisters, Evona Sandberg and Mary Vrell.
