Mary Lou Dale, age 87, of Osage, Iowa, died Friday, March 15, 2019, at the Osage Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Osage. Cremation has taken place.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the United Church of Christ in Osage with Pastor Charles Owens officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Osage Cemetery. Following the services, there will be a lunch and time to greet the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to the United Church of Christ, 630 State Street, Osage, Iowa 50461.
Mary Lou was born May 2, 1931, in Waucoma, the daughter of Earl and Clarice (Woodward) Waid. Her mother died shortly after her birth. Mary Lou was adopted by Melburn and Vernice (Kearney) Woodward in October 1931. She lived her entire life in Mitchell County. She graduated from Osage High School in 1949, and then Iowa State University in 1953, with a degree in dietetics. She interned at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, graduating in 1954, as a dietician.
Mary Lou was united in marriage to Eugene Dale on October 16, 1954. They divorced in 1994. To this union three children were born, Kathleen, Arlene and Russell. She was very active in 4-H, the United Church of Christ, farming, gardening and quilting. She has lived in Osage since 1993.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Arlene (Dennis) Felper of Riceville; son, Russell (Kathy) Dale of Elmhurst, Illinois; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Jacqueline) Lack; half-sister, Dianne Cordos; half-brother, Tim Waid; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by both sets of parents; a daughter, Kathy Gibson; sister, Jeanette Horn; half-brother, Garland Waid.
