Catherine "Katie" A. Rieken, age 78. of Riceville, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center.

Catherine "Katie" was born on March 12, 1940, daughter of Victor and Helen (Groth) Larsen. She graduated from Riceville High School in May of 1958. On August 12, 1958 she married her high school sweetheart, James "Jim" Rieken at Maple Leaf Church in rural Elma, Iowa.

She enjoyed 35 years of farming with her husband and raising four wonderful children, working at the Riceville Community School as head cook for 20 years and was best known for her peanut butter bars and cinnamon rolls, and loved being with her family and grandchildren.

Katie is survived by her husband James "Jim" Rieken of 60 years, children; Brenda Magsamen of Castle Rock, CO, Beverly Schiltz of Platteview, WI, Barbara (John) Schmidt of Nora Springs and Bryan (Susan) Rieken of Manchester; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Myrna (Jake) Jocoby of Waterloo and Irene (Roger) Heying of Harper's Ferry; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Larsen, Shirley Larsen and Bud Pontenberg and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is proceeded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law, George and Edith Rieken; brothers, Charles, Richard and Gordon Larsen and sister, Norma Pontenberg.

Catherine 'Katie' A. Rieken, age 78. of Riceville, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 105 West 6th St, Riceville, Iowa, with Pastor Chris Gorshe officiating. Friends may call from 5 - 8 pm, Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, 401 East Main St. Riceville, Iowa.
