Early Monday morning the sad news reached Osage that Levi Olsen, of Cedar Township, one of the oldest settlers of the county had died at his home in that township on Sunday, September 20th, after an illness of about a week. Mr. Olsen came to Mitchell county in 1852 with Rev. C.L. Clausen, G.E. Gilbertson, and others and settled down on the farm where he died. He built a claim shanty and returned to Wisconsin in the winter, coming back in the spring with about 60 families, who settled in various parts of Mitchell county. Energetic and progressive, Mr. Olsen succeeded in purchasing a large tract of land and after giving a farm to each of his children, still had nearly a section of land left at his death. He was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends, who extend their heartfelt sympathy to the wife and five children who survive him.
He was about 78 years of age. The funeral services were held at the Norwegian Lutheran church, Tuesday, conducted by Rev. J. Olsen of St. Ansgar.
