MASON CITY, IOWA - Marguerite Ruth Tosel, 95, of Mason City, passed away on Wednesday (February 21, 2018) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday (February 27, 2018) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St NE, Mason City, with the Rev. Kathy Graves of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

A visitation will be held Monday evening (February 26, 2018) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and will continue one hour prior to Marguerite's service on Tuesday.

Marguerite Ruth Havig was born on April 22, 1922, the daughter of Martin and Olive Havig of Osage. She was baptized and confirmed from Evangelical Lutheran church in Osage where she received numerous awards for perfect Sunday School attendance. She graduated from Osage Community High School in 1939 at the age of 17. Following high school she worked in retail until meeting her soon to be husband, Sylvan.

She joined Sylvan in Sedro Wooley, Washington, where they were married on February 20, 1943 at the Central Lutheran Church. Marguerite remained in Washington while Sylvan served his country during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge the couple returned to Mason City to make their home and raise their children.

In her younger years Marguerite was an accomplished seamstress and worked hand tinting photos for Como Photo in Mason City. And following their retirement, she and Sylvan enjoyed traveling the United States and Canada.

Marguerite is survived by her children, Steven (Becky) Tosel, Ruthanne (Steven) Fox, and Thomas Tosel, all of Mason City; her grandchildren, Shelly Fox (Jeff VanHorn), Megan (Christopher) Faught, Timothy (Jennifer) Tosel, and Ann Tosel; five great-grandchildren, Jasmine (Alex) Faught, Brandon Tonn, Katlyn Tonn, Michael Griffin, and Jordan VanHorn; two great-great-grandchildren, Skylar and Audy Faught; as well as extended relative and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Sylvan; her parents; two grandsons in infancy, Nicholas and John Tosel; and her siblings, Emma Allene, Doris, Gloria, Marlin and Wayland “Sonny.”
