October 5, 1933 - November 1, 2017

Gervase Hemann, 84, of Riceville, Iowa, passed away at the IOOF Home and Community Center in Mason City under the care of Hospice of North Iowa on Wednesday, November 1, 2017.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, November 7 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church in Riceville, Iowa with Rev. Mark Murphy officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Riceville with military honors by Roy Gue Post 244 of the American Legion. Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville on Monday, November 6 from 4 to 7 PM with a scripture service at 6:30 PM.

Gervase was born on October 5, 1933, son of Alban and Kathren (Becker) Hemann in Meyer, Iowa. He attended local schools and was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Meyer, Iowa. He served in The United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He married the love of his life, Patricia (Patty) Reicherts at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New haven. To this union 3 children were born-Jerry, Ron and Kathy.

Gervase and Patty farmed on her family's farm. Gervase was a very friendly, happy person. He was always ready for a game of cards and enjoyed fishing. His greatest joy was his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of The Knights of Columbus and a 50 year member of The American Legion.

After Patty's passing, he was fortunate enough to meet Nancy Theis. They were married on June 3, 2000 at St. Mary's Church in New Hampton, Iowa. His family then grew to include Nancy's 5 children-David, Laurel, Steve, Jennifer and Stephanie.

Survivors include his two sons, Jerry and his wife Tami of Osage, and Ron and his wife Gena of Charles City; his daughter, Kathy Hemann of Clear Lake; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; stepchildren: David Theis and his wife Jennifer of New Hampton, Laurel Sweitzer and her husband Tom of New Hampton, Steve Theis and his wife Peggy of Waterloo, Jennifer Bremner and her husband Joel of Frederika, Stephanie Wiltse (Seth) of New Hampton, 15 stepgrandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Sally Michels of Austin, MN and Belle Spitz of Osage; and by one brother, Clem Hemann of Osage.

Gervase was preceded in death by his parents; his spouses, Patty and Nancy; by two sisters, Viola Hemann and Evelyn Landherr; and by two brothers, Vince and Eugene Hemann.
