Kathleen Marie Freund, age 92, of Osage, died Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Cremation has taken place.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m.

Kathleen was born August 15, 1924, at Meyer, Iowa, the daughter of Mathias “Matt” and Mary (Meurer) Gerhartz. She graduated from eighth grade at Meyer Independent School.

On June 19, 1947, Kathleen married Joseph Freund at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Meyer. She worked for the Osage Community Schools hot lunch program and later worked in the dietary department of Mitchell County Memorial Hospital.

Kathleen was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Guild, and the Osage V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and sewing.

Kathleen is survived by her husband, Joe Freund of Osage; her children: Connie (Gary) Springer of Clive, Galen (Lavonne) Freund of Osage, Brian (Crystal) Freund of Land O Lakes, Florida; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Mildred Thome of Osage, Mary Helen French of Osage, and Cynthia Dailey of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
