Grant Richard Torney was born March 18, 1898 at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa to Edward James Torney and Luva Anna Whipple, one of their seven children. Grant had a twin brother named James Grant Torney who died as an infant.

Waterloo Courier Obituary:
Funeral services for Grant R Torney, 73, of 727 Easton Avenue, who died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday at Schoitz Memorial Hospital of a heart condition, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Oppold Funeral Home.
The Rev Roger Rethamel, associate pastor of St Edwards Catholic Church, will officiate. Burial will be at St Mary's Cemetery at Ackley at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Elliott-Keninger American Legion Post 252 of Ackley will conduct graveside military rites.
