He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and a Master of Arts Degree in Business from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.
Dave was united in marriage with Sylvia F. Steinberg on June 1, 1952 in Mason City, Iowa. She preceded him in death on March 26, 1994.
Dave began his career after High School working for the FBI in Washington, D.C. for a year and then he entered the U.S. Army, serving from 1954-1956. He taught school in Geneva, Iowa for a year and came to La Porte City in 1961 where he taught Junior High School Government and Civics.
