DAVID NEWTON, 15,
DROWNS, FORMERLY
LIVED ST. ANSGAR

Friends here received word Sunday of the death of David Leslie Newton, 15 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Newton, who lost his life by drowning last Tuesday, in the river near their farm in Wright county, Missouri.

The parents wrote Mr. and Mrs. G.F. Richman, of Osage, the particulars, saying that during the day the lad lost his life, he and his father had been haying. They finished in the afternoon, and Mr. and Mrs. Newton drove into town leaving David to dish in a nearby stream.

At supper time when he didn't return they went to search for him and found his body in the stream. The river was narrow and shallow. Just what happened of course will never be known.

Kenneth** was born on the Tom Hume farm near St. Ansgar, which his parents operated until they moved back to their former home in Missouri about five years ago.

Surviving, besides his parents, are two sisters, Audrey and Goldie, both of whom are married.

The Richman and Newton families were neighbors in Wright county, Missouri, many years ago. Both families moved to this county 17 years ago, and the Newtons returned to Missouri, as mentioned above, in 1938.

** Note: The newspaper said "Kenneth", but I'm sure it should have said "David".
