MARY BENSON RITES JULY 25 IN CALIFORNIA
Funeral services for Miss Mary P. Benson, 88, who died at the Good Samaritan hospital in Los Angeles Sunday, July 22, 1962 were held Wednesday, July 25, 1962 at the Wee Kirk of the Heather, Forest Lawn with the Rev. Samuel S. Disrud of the Solheim Home for the Aged in Eagle Rock officiating.
Mary Pauline Benson was born in St. Ansgar October 9, 1874 of pioneer parents, Guri and Peder Benson. She was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. Clausen and educated in St. Ansgar schools. Miss Benson devoted many years of her life in the caring of her aged parents and working at home for her brothers, Emil and George. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
Members of the family made extended trips to the West coast, and in 1941 George and Mary Benson moved to Los Angeles to make their home. George Benson died December 2, 1947. Miss Benson remained interested in all educational and political affairs. She was a member of the Friday Morning club and the Los Angeles City club. She attended various churches while living in California, but always kept up membership in her home town church, the First Lutheran in St. Ansgar.
Immediate cousins of Miss Benson who survive are Mrs. George A. Halvorson of St. Ansgar; Grace Tollefson of San Jose, Calif.; Mrs. Ruth Michelson of San Jose, Calif.; Mrs. Jeanette Henderson Bakke of Ames; also many other near cousins. She made many friends wherever she lived or became a part of the community.
Interment was in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Sanctuary of Reunion, Glendale, Los Angeles County, California.
