Edwin J. Maakestad, age 86, of Osage, died Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a .m. Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church in Rural Osage with Pastor David A. Werges and Diaconal Minister Elayne J. Werges officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage. Inurnment will be at Rock Creek Cemetery with flag presentation at the grave by the Walter T. Enneberg American Legion Post 358 of St. Ansgar.

Edwin J. Maakestad was born on July 29, 1928 on the family farm near Osage, the son of Edwin M. and Helen (Klemesrud) Maakestad. He graduated from Osage High School. Edwin served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict as an Airman 1st Class with the 485th Comm. Sq. 3rd A.F. spending time overseas in England and France as a Cryptographer.

On March 18, 1961, he married Jacqueline “Jacky” Snowgren. They made their home near Osage where Edwin farmed. Edwin was a member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Walter T. Enneberg American Legion Post 358 of St. Ansgar and a previous Board member of Faith Lutheran Home. The family greatly appreciates the loving care he received while residing at Faith Lutheran Home. Edwin enjoyed gardening, playing cards, golfing and spending time with family.

Edwin is survived by his children, Jon (Michele) Maakestad of North Liberty, and Nicole Maakestad of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Desiree (Randall Lee) Crouse of West Des Moines and Rhianna Maakestad of North Liberty; one great-grandson, Jaxon Crouse; sisters, Kathryn (Ike) Johnson of Osage, and Dorothy Berry of Ocean Springs, Mississippi; brothers, Maurice (Lois) Maakestad and Kenneth Maakestad, both of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Jacky, in 2004.
