Rangdie Povelsdatter was born January 17, 1835 on the Skjervum farm at Gran, Hadeland, Oppland, Norway to Povel Gundersen and Kjersti Gulbrandsdatter.

She was baptized at Gran on February 8, 1835. Birth/baptismal record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives for Gran, Oppland, Norway, 1824-1842, page 264, entry #19.

Rangdi married Hovel Torstensen Hvattum on April 7, 1856 at Gran, Oppland, Norway. Marriage record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives for Gran, Oppland, Norway, 1842-1856, page 1018, entry #33; Haavel Torstensen of Hvattum, age 28 yrs and Randi Paulsdatter of Skjervum age 21. His father: Torsten Haavelsen.

The couple had three children who were all born at Gran, Norway and used the Hvattum surname:
Kjersti Hovelsdatter (b August 18, 1856, d December 11, 1940 Plymouth, Cerro Gordo, Iowa);

Thorsten Hovelsen (b December 9, 1861, d October 16, 1934 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa) and

Paul Hovelsen (b May 25, 1865, d November 1, 1944 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa).

The family emigrated in May 1868 to America.

Found in the 1880 - 1905 censuses living on a farm at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa:
1880: H. T. Hvattam 56, Rangde Hvattam 45, Thorsten Hvattam 18, Paul Hvattam 15, Borger Larsen 36.

1885: Hovel T Hvattum 60, Rangdi Hvattum 50, Thorsten Hvattum 22, Paol Hvattum 19, Cora Insend 23.

1900: Thorren Hvattum 37, Paul Hvattum 33, Rangde Hvattum 65, Sigred Lynne 20, Mouris Maudal 20, Gabriel Maudal 29.

1910: Torstein *Ttum 47, Randi *Ttum 22, Ruth B *Ttum 1, Rangdi Hvattum 75, Oscar Gilberts 17. (Census taker mis-spelled their surname)

Found in the 1915 census at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa: Rangdi age 80.

Rangdi Hvattum died on February 19, 1919 at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa.

She is buried at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa.
