Pernille Pedersdatter was born March 10, 1829 at Blegeneiet, Brandbu, Oppland, Norway to Peder Johnsen and Berthe Torstensdatter (who were married November 13, 1817 at Gran).

Pernille was baptized on March 15, 1829 at Gran, Norway. Birth/baptismal record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives for Gran, Oppland, Norway 1824-1842, page 119, top of page.

She married Ole Gundersen on March 6, 1851 at Hadeland, Gran, Oppland, Norway.

The couple had 11 children who were all born at Gran, Oppland, Norway:
Kjersti Clara (b March 24, 1851 at Raastad, d January 18, 1928 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);

Peder (b July 27, 1852, d January 26, 1853 at Undelieseiet, Gran, Oppland, Norway);

Birthe (b November 21, 1853, d December 31, 1853 Gran, Oppland, Norway);

Birthe (b December 23, 1854, d August 14, 1936 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);

Kari (b December 9, 1856, d March 9, 1941 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa);

Sidseline (b September 30, 1858, d December 3 1861 Gran, Oppland, Norway);

Oline (b November 17, 1860, d March 7, 1949 Clearwater, Minnesota);

Sidseline (b March 9, 1863, d November 20, 1936 Charles City, Floyd, Iowa);

Johanne Hannah (b July 21, 1866, d December 30, 1959 Northfield, Rice, Minnesota);

Anne Marie (b October 8, 1868 at Undelieseiet, d April 16, 1946 Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa) and

Trine (b November 15, 1871 at Raastadeiet, d August 20, 1947 Chicago, Cook, Illinois).

The family left Norway in June of 1881 to emigrate to Elgin, Iowa.

Johanne Olsdatter, b July 24, 1866, baptized September 23, 1866, confirmed May 22, 1881;
Anne Marie Olsdatter, b October 8, 1868, baptized December 26, 1868 and
Trine Olsdatter, b November 7, 1871, baptized December 25, 1871.

The father, Ole Gundersen, who was born September 17, 1821 at Gran died on September 29, 1881 at Clayton, Iowa. That had to be devastating for his wife and children.

Found his wife in the 1885 census living at Marion, Clayton, Iowa: Pernille Gundersen age 55. widowed, housekeeping and daughter Trine, age 13.

Next found in the 1900 census living at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa: Hannah Peterson 23, Pernilla Olsen 71, Trena Olsen 26, Bertha Anderson 43, Ludwig Anderson 13. Says Pernille had 11 children and eight are living in 1900.

Pernille Gundersen died September 3, 1902 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the Osage Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa. Her children had Ole's body exhumed from the Glermont Lutheran Cemetery in Elgin in 1914 and moved to the Osage City Cemetery to be buried next to Pernille.
