He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of his native place and since coming to this country has always been an active member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church.
Mr. Paulson entered into his first marriage with Randi P. Framstad of this community on December 15, 1875. In this marriage the following children were born: Knut, of Driscol, North Dakota; Mrs. David (Anna) Gates of North Regina, Canada; and Mrs. Henry (Hermina) Espseth, of Wild Rose, North Dakota. His first wife preceded him in death on May 28, 1891.
On November 17, 1892, Mr. Paulson entered into his second marriage with Anna Thompson Dardahl. In this marriage five children, three sons and two daughters, were born. These children survive him: Thomas and Herman, both at home; Gust, of Rock Township; Mrs. Herbert (Birdie) Huebner and Mrs. Clifford (Alma) Gast, both of this vicinity. His second wife preceded him in death on May 11, 1933. Besides the above children a brother, Christopher Paulson, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and twenty-seven grandchildren survive.
During the last seven years the health of the departed brother has gradually been failing and on account of his crippled condition he has been confined to his home. He became seriously ill about a week ago and heart failure, together with the usual infirmities of old age, terminated his temporal life on May 13, 1940.
