Ann L. Kohler, age 106, of Osage, and formerly of Vinton, died Monday, January 12, 2015, at Stacyville Community Nursing Home in Stacyville.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2015, in the Evergreen Cemetery at Vinton, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with a rosary at 10:30 a.m.

Ann was born August 10, 1908, in Elma, in Howard County, Iowa, the daughter of Michael and Margaret (Biwer) Elgas. When she was eight years old, the family moved to Cedar Rapids. Ann graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1927. She married Allen Kohler on June 18, 1947, at St. Patrick’s Church in Cedar Rapids. In 1950, they moved to Vinton where they were members of St. Mary’s Church. Allen died in 1971.

Ann worked as a secretary and was employed in Vinton by Green Giant Co., Milroy Law Firm, Mossman and Mossman Law Firm, and Hawk Bilt Co. She retired in 1993, and moved to Osage in 2002. Ann was a member of the International Association of Legal Secretaries, joining in 1963. That same year, she attended the association’s convention, which was held in Minneapolis. Ann wrote the story of her life, a 65 page account entitled “Ashes of Roses” which also included pictures. Ann enjoyed dancing, watching sports on TV, writing letters to family and friends, and playing bridge and other card games.

Ann is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Local family members include, Fred Bissen of Stacyville, Jean Shannon of New Hampton, Marge (Gerald) Gansen of Riceville, Delores Hemann of Osage, and Isabel Mullenbach of Adams, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Allen; five sisters, Gertrude Elgas, Margaret Sullivan, Isabelle Elliott, Clara Shannon, Catherine Dostart; six brothers, John, Anthony, Bernard, Peter, Daniel, and Stephen.
