Riceville, Iowa — Funeral services were Tuesday in the Immaculate Conception Church at Riceville for Barney Hughes, 86, who died Dec. 2 at his home in Riceville.

He was born August 10, 1859, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He came to Riceville when a young man and had resided here and in Jamestown Township for more than 60 years.

He married Christina Thelen Aug. 23. 1918.

Survived by his wife; sons, John and Tom of Riceville; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Quinn, Sr., of this vicinity.

In 1913 he and his son. Tom. entered the grocery business in Riceville which the son still operates.

Burial was in Calvary cemetery at Ricevile.
