CARPENTER--At Doran, Ia., March 25th, 1891, after a brief illness, Mrs. Catharine C. Carpenter.

She was born in New Berlin, Chenango county, N. Y., Sept. 25th, 1820, and on the 17th day of April, 1843 was married to her now bereaved husband, Mr. C. Carpenter, in Chautauqua county, N. Y. They removed immediately after their marriage to Covington Ky., and from that place to Mitchell county in 1856, where they have since resided. Mrs. Carpenter's family name was Stoneman. two of whose members have attained distinction in the west, the Hon. John T. Stoneman of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Gov. Stoneman of California, being her nephews.

Their youngest son, Frank, is in Montana, but the other five were all present at their mother's death to sympathize with their aged father in this sore affliction.
