Services for John E. Bloes, 81, of Oxnard, California, formerly of Waterloo, Iowa, will be on Wednesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage, Iowa.

A prayer service is scheduled for Sunday at Payton Mortuary at Oxnard.

He died on Friday at St. John's Hospital in Oxnard after a lengthy illness.

John was born on May 19, 1901, in Ionia, Minnesota; he was the son of Eugene and Catherine Nie Bloes. He married Jessie Cummings on January 15, 1923, at Osage, Iowa.

Oppold Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He worked in the assembly department at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo for 21 years, before retiring in 1966.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Kathryn Sampson of Oxnard; two sisters, Magdalene Sloggett of Inglewood, Calif., and Margaret Eckford of Osage; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
