Services were held for Robert "Red" Slaughter, 69, of New Haven, Iowa, on Thursday, January 20, 1983, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven, with burial in the church cemetery. Officiating were Reverends J. Gregory and Gregory Hemeseth.
Robert died on Monday, January 17, 1983, at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester following cardiac arrest.
Robert Slaughter was born December 13, 1913 in Elba, Minnesota, to William F. and Veronica Perrault Slaughter. He graduated from Stillwater High School, Stillwater, Minnesota, in 1932.
He married Olga Marie Shern on June 17, 1936 in New Richmond, Wisconsin. Red moved to New Haven in 1950 where he opened the Iowa territory for Doughboy Feeds. Prior to this he lived in Black River Falls, Wisconsin, and Charles City.
Red was an active member of St. Peter's Church, the Men's Club, the Boy Scouts and the Riceville and Adams Country Clubs.
Surviving Red are his wife, Olga; a son, Robert A. and wife Judy; son-in-law, John W. Miller and wife, Marilee of St. Paul; four grandchildren: Linda, John, Erik and Jenny; mother, Myra of Hudson, Wisconsin; three brothers: Edward of Bellvue, Washington, Ralph of Stillwater, Minnesota, and John of St. Paul, Minnesota; four sisters: Mrs. Margaret Funk of Grants Pass, Oregon, Sister Elizabeth Slaughter, Hudson, Wisconsin, Mrs. Henrietta Meyer of Welsh, Louisiana, and Mrs. Josephine McGraw of Hudson, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Samuel and daughter Gladys Miller.
