Darwin was born on April 27, 1928, to Louis and Elsie (Arp) Koster. He attended Fairview Country School and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1946. He was baptized and confirmed as an adult at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.
Darwin was united in marriage to Lanita Hansen on May 1, 1949. Their children are: Kathy (Roger) Chancellor and their children, Kristine Fischer and Tara Stassen; James (Ellen) Koster and their children: Jennifer Fox, Kari Geiger, Amy Hedrich and Mary Schuh; Lori (Tony) Mayer and their children: Heather Nielsen, Ryan Mayer and John Mayer; Kevin (Kristie) Koster and their children: Kalyn Koster, Kody Koster and Kray Koster.
Darwin enjoyed farming the family farm and serving residents at the Worth Living Center. He served as a Mitchell County Trustee and was president of the St. Ansgar Fire Department for several years. He especially loved his family and friends, fishing, camping and hunting. One of his favorite things was joining his friends for coffee at the Sportsman’s Lounge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marlin and Delmar; sister, Donna.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife; his children; twelve grandchildren; twenty six great-grandchildren; his sister, Neva Angell; and several nieces and nephews.
