OSAGE, IOWA - Sara Jane Onken, 61, of Osage, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 6, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Sara was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska, on February 24, 1953. Sara was the daughter of the late Glen Charles and Ethel Arlene Coverdell. Sara married David John Onken on October 16, 1970, in Charles City, Iowa.

Sara worked as an aide at numerous nursing homes in the area and also drove truck with her husband, David for a number of years.

Sara is survived by her husband, David, of 43 years; three children: Richard (Sandra) Onken of Orchard, Jody of Mason City, and Angela (Mike) Dishinger of Osage; nine grandchildren that were her pride and joy; three sisters: Ina (LaVern) Cargill of Grovetown, Georgia, Glenda (Keith) Cargill of Burlington, Kentucky, and Sharon (Stanley) Hennigar of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Glen (Gloria) Coverdell of Camanche, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, at Victory In Christ Free Methodist Church, 604 23rd St. S.W., Mason City, Iowa, with the Rev. Larry E. Day officiating. A luncheon for family and friends will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family or to Hospice of North Iowa.
