Laura Johanne Knudsen was born September 9, 1893 at Lincoln, Mitchell, Iowa to Ole Knudsen and Kari Olsdatter, the tenth of their eleven children.

Laura was baptized on September 18, 1893 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. Her baptismal sponsors were: Mr. & Mrs. Steffin Pedersen; Pauline m Pedersen.

Laura married Earl H Nyce on September 4, 1917 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa. The couple had 2 daughters.
