Joyce Ann Gregory was born May 31, 1944, in Hampton, Iowa, a daughter of Wilbert F. "Bill" and Hilma E. (Schmidt) Borcherding. Her parents farmed around Hampton, until 1950 when they moved to Lyle, Minnesota.

Joyce grew up in the Lyle, Minnesota and St. Ansgar, Iowa, areas, graduating from St. Ansgar High School in 1962. After graduation she was employed at Farmers State Bank in Lyle.

July 27, 1963 she married Richard G. Ask of Osage, at Our Savior's Lutheran Parish Chapel in Lyle, Minnesota. They were later divorced. They initially lived in Osage, later moving to Rochester, Minnesota.

She worked at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, for 30 years before moving to Mesa, Arizona. She enjoyed sewing and joked about it being an "addiction," even selling many of her garments, making enough to put her son through college.

Survived by two sons, Michael Ask of Mesa, Arizona, and Greg, Colorado; two sisters, Yvonne Bohlman, Billings, Montana, and Elaine "Billie" Schrader of Tennessee.

Preceded in death by her parents in 2000 and 2002, and a sister Carol J. Mildenstein in 1996.
