Viola Blaser, age 98, of Osage, died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Faith Home in Osage.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Burial will be in Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 4:30 p.m.

The family suggests that memorials may be directed to the Osage Senior Citizen Center, 615 State Street, Osage, Iowa, 50461, and/or Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 218 South 12th Street, Osage, Iowa, 50461.

Viola was born April 20, 1916, in Stacyville, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Emma (Weninger) Steiger. She attended Visitation Catholic Grade School in Stacyville. Viola married Irven Mauer in 1937. To this union, two children were born. Viola married Richard Blaser on March 23, 1980, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. He passed away April 18, 2010.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Viola enjoyed dancing to “Old Time” music. She was an avid gardener of vegetables and flowers and had a passion for cooking wonderful meals. Viola’s love for anyone she ever met was found in her detailed scrapbooks that she made. We marvel over where she ever found the time to give those books such devotion. Viola was a great example of her Catholic faith to her grandchildren, whom she adored with all her heart. She loved taking them fishing and made a quilt for each grandchild and great-grandchild.

Viola is survived by her children, Marilyn (Dick) Miller of Mason City and Gary (Jan) Mauer of Oskaloosa; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Bertha Brown of Rochester, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews and godchildren; and her bingo helper, Lucille Hultman of Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Irven Mauer; her second husband, Richard Blaser; brothers, Alfred Steiger and wife Rosella, and Eugene Steiger; and brother-in-law, Fred “Fritz” Brown.
