Patricia E. "Pat" Hand, 86, of Surprise, Ariz., formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Gardens of Sunset Care Center, Arizona.

She was born April 5, 1926, in Mitchell, daughter of Albert A. and Nona G. Cole Zastrow. She married Gerald H. Hand on April 9, 1949, in Chicago. He died August 9, 1992.

Mrs. Hand was a 1944 graduate of the Mitchell High School. She and her husband operated the family business of Hand Implement, where she was bookkeeper for more than 25 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survived by a son, Doug (Cheryl) of Independence; a daughter, Debra (Mark) Hess of Cedar Rapids; two stepdaughters, Cynthia (Mike Tracy) Hand and Kathleen Hand, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a brother, James Zastrow.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Independence. Visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, and from 9 a.m. until services Saturday at the church.
