N. A. Anderson Dies After Long Illness

Neut Albert Anderson, the oldest of nine children of Peter and Carrie Anderson, was born in Sweden, May 25, 1882, and passed away June 2, 1955, at the age of 73 years and eight days. When he was three years old, his parents brought him to America, locating in Warren County, Illinois, where he grew to manhood.

Coming to Iowa at the age of 23, he met Lola Landmesser, and on February 14, 1907, they were joined in wedlock at Gilmore City. Five children were born to this union: Evelyn, Mrs. Perry Blassey, St. Paul; Gladys, Mrs. Jake Everson, Minneapolis; Beulah, Mrs. Floyd Wood, St. Paul; Blanche, Mrs. Gleston Smith, and Harold Anderson, Riceville.

Mr. Anderson was baptized as an infant in the Lutheran church in Sweden. He and his wife joined the Methodist church about 40 years ago in Raymond, Minnesota, transferring their membership to the Riceville Methodist Church in 1940. They lived for a few years in Humboldt and Osceola Counties in Iowa, moving to Minnesota in 1914, where they resided until the spring of 1940. They then moved to the farm east of Riceville, where Harold and his wife Evelyn, now live.

Neut Anderson spent his entire life at farming, an occupation very dear to his heart. When he and Lola moved to the Riceville farm, he was already stricken with progressive muscular dystrophy, but he loved the soil and with his wife's faithful help was able to pay for the entire 240-acre farm in 9 years. Ad the effects of his disease became worse, he often had to crawl on his hands and knees in the field, but he would not give up until it was almost impossible for him to stand alone. Though he suffered keenly and knew clearly what probably lay ahead of him, he did not complain or sulk. Even after he became almost helpless and had to move to town in 1853, he never had a cross word for anyone, and his first thoughts were always for the welfare of his family and friends. He loved fun, and to the very end kept his sense of humor and was more appreciative of every little kindness.

Just ten days before his death, Mr. Anderson in semi-consciousness, spoke to his wife and children of the mansion that he saw being prepared for him where he invited them to visit him some future time, and asked them if they could take care of him one more week and a half.

Left to mourn the loss of a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather there are his widow, Lola, his five children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also three brothers, Henry, Oscar and William McKinney, Livermore, and Albert Lea, Minnesota, respectively; and one sister, Edith, Mrs. Phillip Beaver, Shoshoni, Wyoming.

His parents; one sister, Amelia Youngberg; and three brothers: Clarence, Walter and Fred, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held June 4 at the Riceville Methodist Church, the Rev. Misses Luella G. Koether and T. Janet Surdam, officiating. Mrs. Ardis Dunton and Miss Surdam sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Rock of Ages." Miss Koether accompanying. Pallbearers were Harvey Stark, Fred Seidel, Adolf Brunner, Lee Lenth, Tom McMaster and Josiah Stepp. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased: Wayne and James Blasney, David Smith, Russell Wood, Jack Pfau [Plau?] and David Hedberg. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.

NOTES:
The obituary mentioned a daughter, Mrs. Perry Blassey, but it is believed that the surname should be Blossey. The pall bearer grandson, James Blasney, might also be a Blossey.

See his memorial on Find A Grave Memorial# 77059414.

Look for his wife, Lola's obituary here under the name "Lola Noble," since she remarried to a Mr. Noble after Neut died.
