LITTLE CEDAR MAN
TAKEN BY DEATHFuneral services for a Little Cedar area farmer, Joe Hockens, 60, were held Friday afternoon at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage. Mr. Hockens died at his farm on February 3, 1981. The Rev. Bruce Wittern, pastor of the Little Cedar United Methodist Church, was in charge of the rites, and burial was in the Liberty Cemetery near Little Cedar.
Death was caused by a self-inflicted gun shot wound.
Joe Henry Hockens was born in Little Cedar on January 16, 1921, the son of Henry H. and Sarah Winer Hockens. He graduated from Little Cedar High School in 1938 and spent his adult life farming east of Little Cedar, first with his father until his death, then with his brother Charles. The past eight years he had been engaged in trucking, hauling grain from elevators to river terminals.
Surviving are his brother Charles; one nephew, Wendell Hockens of Cedar Rapids; one great-nephew; three aunts and one uncle.
Preceding him in death were his parents.
