Obituary:

GRAFTON, IOWA - Michael J. Johanns, 49, of Grafton, died Friday, February 7, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, with Rev. Solveig A.H. Zamzow officiating. Interment will be in the Grafton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Mason City. Memorials may be directed to the Michael Johanns Memorial Fund.

Mike was born February 10, 1964 in Mason City to Richard and Barbara (Koehler) Johanns. He graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1982.

Mike married Shellie Walsh October 20, 1984 in Manly. He was employed by Carroll George in Northwood for a number of years and most recently by Kraft Foods here in Mason City. Through the years, he also farmed with his dad and brother, Tom. A few of his interests included snowmobiling, volleyball, camping, jet skiing, and tinkering in his garage. He enjoyed volunteering for the town of Grafton, and spending time with his grandchildren who called him "Papa."

Mike is survived by his wife, Shellie of Grafton; 2 sons, Tyler (Cari) Johanns of Eagle Lake, Minnesota, Jared Johanns of Grafton; 2 grandchildren, Trey and Carter Johanns; parents, Richard and Barbara Johanns of Grafton; 2 brothers, Tom (Darcee) Johanns of Mason City, Robert Johanns of Des Moines; 2 sisters, Kathleen (Guy) Venz of Grafton, Joleen (Brian) Hansen of St. Ansgar; sister-in-law, Shannon (Mark) Dodd of Mason City, and many nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy.

2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Iowa.
