Mr. E. G. Rice died quite suddenly at the Lawn House, Osage. last Wednesday morning at 2 o'clock. A half empty vial of laudanum was found in his room. He had purchased it to induce sleep, and he had been using it for some time. It is supposed he accidentally took too much.

He had been a resident of Mitchell county since 1858.

One of his daughters married P. V. M. Raymond, now of Lincoln, Nebraska.
