Isaiah Solomon Billmeyer

November 2, 1836 – November 12, 1888

The following item from the Mitchell Co., Iowa, Press, regarding the death of Mr. I. S. Billmeyer who died suddenly of heart disease, will be of interest to many of our readers who were former residents of that place and were well acquainted with this gentleman:

The announcement Tuesday morning that I. S. Billmeyer had suddenly died the night previous, was received with surprise and sorrow by this entire community.

During the entire day Monday he had been very busy at lifting and placing heavy timbers on the foundation of the new storage building. Upon his return home in the evening he complained of feeling somewhat tired and lame throughout his body, but after he had partaken of his supper he went down town, returning about 9 o’clock. He sat for a few minutes in conversation with his wife, then he retired and went to his chamber alone.

He was heard walking about the room overhead for a few minutes and then all was still. In about thirty minutes Mrs. Billmeyer closed the house for the night and went to the room. As she entered she saw the form of her beloved husband lying on the bed in the cold embrace of death, only partially undressed.

Isiaih Solomon Billmeyer was born November 2, 1836 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, the son of Andrew and Margaret (Kline) Billmeyer. He married Sarah Griswold the daughter of Adolphus and Ann (Brown) Griswold.
