MRS. META KRONEMAN, ST. ANSAGAR,
TO OBSERVE NINETIETH BIRTHDAY

Mrs. Meta Kroneman of St. Ansgar is celebrating her 90th birthday Monday, February 15. She makes her home at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar, and there she lives a quiet life.

Mrs. Kroneman will be honored by those at the center and by many relatives and friends, with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Gemaehlich of Osage as hosts.

As a young child, 85 years ago, Meta Ruebe Kroneman came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ruebe, her brothers and sisters to St. Ansgar by train from Milwaukee. She remembers St. Ansgar when there were board walks as far east as the elevator. Yes, there was an elevator on that site that long ago.

She attended school in a schoolhouse in St. Ansgar, which no longer exists. Later the family moved to a farm in Worth County, near Carpenter, and it was there that she met and married William Kroneman. They farmed in Rock township, Mitchell county. When ill health struck Mr. Kroneman the family moved to St. Ansgar.

Mr. Kroneman recalls with a smile that she and her husband bought a new Overland car in 1913, the first that they had owned. She remembers too, that it was built with a right hand drive, and how proud they were of this vehicle. They drove it to Nora Springs to attend the Fourth of July Celebration, and also to attend band concerts in that town.

The family if this lady includes her daughter, Irma Gemaechlich; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one brother, William Ruebe. Her husband and one son, Clarence, are deceased.

Mrs. Kroneman takes an interest in her family and friends, but bad eyesight prevents her from doing the crochetting that had always been her favorite passtime.
