Sgt. Walter Erwin Walk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Walk, of Rose Creek, was born on April 27, 1921, in Ottertail county, Minnesopta on a farm near Perham.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He later moved with his parents onto a farm near Grafton, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. On October 2, 1942 he was inducted into the Army Air Force. He received his training at Shepperd's Field, Texas and Tampa, Florida. He left the states in August 1943 and spent six months at Trinidad. He returned to the United States in December 1944 for a short furlough.
He was then sent to the Pacific. It was in the battle of Saipan his plane was shot down and he was taken prisoner on April 14, 1945. He died of pneumonia in a Jap prison camp on May 1, 1945. He leaves besides his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

NOTES:According to his service folder, a memorial service was held at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Rock Creek, Iowa (Meroa), on Sunday, April 7, 1946.
