CARPENTER, IOWA -- Meryl G. Brewer, 87, of Carpenter died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, in Rochester, Minnesota.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, and one hour prior to service at the church.

#2:CARPENTER, IOWA - Meryl G. Brewer, 87, of Carpenter, died on Sunday, October 13, 2013 in Rochester, Minnesota.
Funeral service will be on Thursday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar and one hour prior to service at the church.
Meryl was born on December 7, 1925 in Rockwell, Iowa, to Grant and Reba (Donaldson) Brewer. He grew up in Mason City, and there began a lifelong love of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and was discharged in 1946. He received his high school diploma from San Diego, Calif. evening high school and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1951.
Meryl spent the major part of his working life in banking, spending over 25 years at the Carpenter Savings Bank in Carpenter.
While at the University of Iowa, Meryl met Bernice Hudepohl. They were married on March 28, 1952 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Iowa City and moved to Carpenter in 1960.
Meryl was preceded in death by his parents, his step father, Mark Sackett; brothers, Glen, Sid and Earl; son-in-law, Harve Wolfe.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years; daughters, Jean Wolfe of Dillon, Montana, Cathy Cunningham of Kent, Wash. and Susan (Terry) Skogerboe of Pawcatuck, Connecticut; he will be missed by his grandchildren, Alex Wolfe; Steve, Emily and John Skogerboe; and Michael, Matthew and Melanie Cunningham.
