PASSING AWAY. - Joel S. Mix, one of the old settlers of Mitchell county died at his home in Mitchell county on Tuesday January 18, 1876, aged 55 years, one month and 21 days. Mr. Mix settled in this county in 1856, making his home at Mitchell, at which place he resided uninterruptedly until his death. Thus one by one the old settlers and pioneers of this section are passing away.

As a citizen, as a neighbor, as a friend Joel S. Mix stood without a peer, and by a life of industry, sobriety and rectitude, he passed to "the other shore," respected in his life, and mourned in his death by all who knew him. --Mitchell Co., Press
