JAMES LONIE DIES
AT IOWA CITY --
HAD OPERATIONJames Lonie, 77, died at Iowa City Tuesday night at the University hospital, where he had submitted to an operation for the removal of a cataract from an eye. While he had not been in good health, it was not known that his condition was serious.
Mr. Lonie was born in this county and had spent practically his entire life here. He and his family lived at Little Cedar for many years and operated a general store. About seven years ago they sold their business and moved to a residence in Brownville.
Surviving is his wife and their three daughters, Marian, who is at home, Mrs. Henry McRorie of Sandstone, Minnesota, and Mrs. Laura Fairbrother of Orchard.
Funeral services will be held at the Shelledy Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, and burial will be in the Mitchell Cemetery.

James R. Lonie was born on April 26, 1886, at Wilmot, Wisconsin. He was the youngest son of Thomas and Eliza Lonie.
James' father died when he was three years old and the family moved to Stacyville, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.
He was united in marriage to Edna Mae Aldrich of Mitchell, at Osage, on April 25, 1898. They spent many years in the vicinity of Stacyville and Little Cedar, farming. To this union was born three daughters.
In 1919 they moved to Little Cedar where Mr. Lonie bought a grocery store and conducted it for 15 years.
His health began to fail and in 1937 they moved to Brownville, where he resided up to the time of his passing. In later years his vision was impaired due to cataracts. He went to Iowa City for medical aid and on January 8, had an operation on his eyes. The operation was successful, and he was preparing to come home when he succumbed to a heart attack. He died on January 26, 1943, at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 17 days.
Mr. Lonie leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Mae Lonie; their daughters: Miriam, at home, Mrs. June Fairbrother of Orchard, and Mrs. Laura McRorie of Sandstone, Minnesota; also four grandchildren.
He will be remembered by his many friends as a good citizen. He was generous, trustworthy, and very fond of children. He was a great lover of nature and out-door life.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 30, 1943, at the Shelledy funeral home in charge of Marjory York, pastor of the Little Cedar Methodist Church. Interment was in the Mitchell cemetery.
