Barbara Powell Tubbs

(December 2, 1922 - December 25, 2011)

Barbara Lee Powell Tubbs was born December 2, 1922 at Kansas City, MO ,the daughter of Victor William and Vivian Ellinger Brewer. She attended school in Kansas City and graduated from Southwest High School. Barbara was married to Charles Powell on May 22, 1942 in Kansas City. To this union were born two daughters: Pamela and Dee. They moved to Iowa where they lived in Winthrop. Charles died in 1981.

Barbara was married to Charles Tubbs on December 1, 1981 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua. They have lived at Oelwein since. Barb was a medical receptionist in the offices of Dr. Hallberg and O’Brien until retiring in 1989. Barb has resided at Grandview Care Center since March, 2010.

Barb entered into her eternal rest on Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Grandview Care Center in Oelwein. She was 89 years of age.

Survivors include her husband Charles Tubbs of Oelwein, her daughter Dee (Tom) Gerstenberger of Waterloo; two grandchildren: Kimberly (Tim) DeMuth Dudley and William Gerstenberger; two great grandchildren: Sara Ann Kremer and Mike Kremer; one sister Patricia Potter of Kansas City, MO; her son in law Jerry DeMuth of Winthrop, other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her first husband Charles Powell; her daughter Pamela Ann DeMuth; her grandson Jeremy DeMuth; and one brother Victor Brewer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop with Pastor Sue Ann Raymond officiating. As she requested her body was cremated and her ashes will be buried in Fairview Cemetery at Winthrop. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 10 AM until service time on Saturday.
