Bernice Sweeney

LONGWOOD, FLORIDA - Bernice Sweeney (nee Brandau), 90, of Longwood, Florida, died December 21, 2012. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Eden Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Rudd, with Rev. Jennifer Ehlers presiding.

SWEENEY, BERNICE "BEE", (nee Brandau), 90, died on December 21 surrounded by her family. Bee was an avid traveler and bridge player and an enthusiastic fan of college football and the PGA. She enjoyed the challenge of all kinds of puzzles, and board and card games were the center of family fun.

Born and raised on a farm in Iowa, Bee graduated from Coe College in 1943 and raised her family in various cities before moving to Florida in 1981.

She is survived by her children Daniel Sweeney, Jr. (Peggy) of Alexandria, Virginia; Peggy Forbes (Jim) of Evanston, Illinois; Tricia Sweeney of Seekonk, Mass.; and Joel Sweeney of Longwood, Florida; along with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her son Thomas Sweeney predeceased her.

She will be deeply missed by all her family and friends. A private burial will be held in Iowa.

Bernice married Daniel Lincoln Sweeney, who was born February 3, 1922 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and died September 29, 2005 in Longwood, Florida. They were divorced before 1985. Daniel was the son of Leo Michael Sweeney and Jessie Marie (Decker) Sweeney. His 2nd wife was Lurene Felden Dillon who he married on August 2, 1985.
