Gulbrand (Gudbrand, Gilbert) Pedersen Taje (Tajet) was born at Prestejele, Hurdal, Akershus, Norway in 1784 to Peder Persen and Kari Nielsdatter. Found birth record at Norwegian digital archives on-line for Hurdal, Akershus, Norway 1777-1812, pg 16, 6th entry down. (This birth year conflicts with cemetery record but believe it is correct.)

Gulbrand lived at the Rustad, & Tajet or Taje farms and used Taje as his surname after emigrating.

Gulbrand married Chatrine (Katrine) Nielsdatter on March 11, 1810 at Hurdal, Akershus, Norway.

They had at least 8 children while in Norway:

Anne (born March 29, 1814 Rustad, died Norway),

Olea (born January 10, 1823 Norway, married Ole Olsen Vestlien June 17, 1842, died January 3, 1879 Newburg, Mitchell, Iowa),

Inga Lovise (born October 21, 1825 Norway, married Ole Kristoffersen Rustad April 15, 1852 Rustad, died September 25, 1910 St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa,

Nils (born August 29, 1828 Norway, married Marie Halvorsdatter 1857 Norway, died unknown Norway) and

Ingsbard (born Rustad, Norway, may have married Gilbert Horgen, died Osage, Mitchell, Iowa).

Family emigrated from Hurdalen, Akershus, Norway April 6, 1861. Record found in the Norwegian Digital Archives on-line, Hurdal in Hurdal 1860-1877, pg 217, entry #103 Gulbrand age 75; #104 Chatrine 69; #105 Olea 38, #106 Christian 19; #107 Olaus Olsen 17 and #108 Caroline Olsdatter 15. They settled in Newburg township, Mitchell County, Iowa.

Found in the 1870 census living at Newburg, Mitchell,Iowa with grandson, Olaus Oleson, daughter Olea, wife Chatrine and recorded as Gilbert Nelson. 90 years old.

Gulbrand Pedersen Tajet died April 26, 1874 at Newburg, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at the First Lutheran Cemetery, St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.
