Gerhard Chester Benjamin Goplerud was born November 19, 1894, at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa to Christopher Christoffersen Goplerud and Anna Kjerstine Hundeby, the second of their three children.

Gerhard was baptized at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa on December 23, 1894. His baptismal sponsors were: Christopher C. Goplerud & wife; John Goplerud & Oline Goplerud.

Gerhard was a private in the US Army and fought in World War 1.

Gerhard Goplerud died September 15, 1981 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa and was buried at Osage City Cemetery, Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.
