OSAGE, IOWA — Arthur "Artie" Hemann, 81, of Osage, died Monday, February 11, 2013, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Monsignor John Hemann officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorials be directed to Sacred Heart Church in Osage Handicap Accessibility Fund.
Artie was born October 26, 1931, at Meyer, the son of Joseph and Dorothy (Smith) Hemann. He graduated from eighth grade at Meyer. Artie served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
On Feb. 8, 1954, he married Darlene Michels at Sacred Heart Church in Osage. They farmed east of Osage until 1971. Artie worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation from 1971 to 1993. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, dancing, golfing and traveling. Most of all, Artie was proud of his family.
Artie is survived by his wife, Darlene Hemann of Osage; his children, Russell (Cheryl) Hemann of Dubuque, Nancy (Jon) McSweeney of Owatonna, Minnesota, Gary (Jolene) Hemann of Osage, Kevin (Sara) Hemann of Charles City, Gregg (Lisa) Hemann of Atoka, Tennessee; grandchildren, Julie (Brian) Jasken of Vadnais Heights, Minn., Crystal (Will) Thomas of Ankeny, Michelle (Kevin) Kruize of Owatonna, Minn., Marcia (Joe) Hanssen of Waukesha, Wis., Jed (Jen) Hemann of Waukon, Jesse (Stacy) Hemann of Lonsdale, Minn., Joe (Nicole) Hemann of Des Moines, Dr. Luke (Lisa) Hemann of Peosta, Jake (Jen) Hemann of Osage, Tony Hemann of Charles City, Ryan Hemann of Charles City, Alyson Hemann of Atoka Tenn., Jacque Hemann and fiancé, Blake Garren of Memphis, Tenn.; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Ray (Beatrice) Hemann of Adams, Minn., Sister Kenneth Hemann of Dubuque, Angela Werner of Osage, Kenneth (Anne) Hemann of St. Ansgar, Theresa (George) Theis of Plymouth; and sisters-in-law, Kate Hemann, Joan Hemann and Norraine Hemann, all of Osage.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Cletus, John and Bob Hemann.
