Ruth E. Arnold Funeral June 3
Funeral services for Ruth E. (Penney) Arnold, 75, of Mason City and formerly of Little Cedar, Iowa, who died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage, were held Monday, June 3 at the Little Cedar United Methodist Church in Little Cedar, with the Rev. Robert W. Lemmermann officiating.
Ruth was born June 18, 1926, in Little Cedar, the daughter of Clinton "Joe" and Thelma (McPhail) Penney. Ruth graduated from Little Cedar High School in 1943 and received her teaching degree from Luther College in Decorah.
She taught elementary school for various school districts throughout South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa. She began her teaching career in a rural school in Mitchell County. She taught for a number of years in Lansing and Osage.
She continued her career teaching in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Richfield, Minnesota, before moving to Mason City. She was an active supporter of the school and college activities that her children were involved in.
Ruth is survived by two daughters, Patricia Fankell and husband Bill of Des Moines; Penny Arnold of Des Moines; a son, Mark Arnold of Spokane, Washington; a sister, Maxine McSweeney and husband Bob of Osage.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Dean and Rex Penney.
Interment was in the Little Cedar Cemetery.

In 1949 Elaine was selected as the Little Cedar Creamery Queen and then became the Mitchell County Dairy Queen. The photo below is from the July 14, 1949 Mitchell County Press, in a story telling about her selection as Queen.
