Funeral services for Miss Emma Torgerson, 88, who died at the Osage Nursing Home in Osage February 2, 1963 were held February 6 at the First Lutheran church with the Rev. Don Hamilton officiating.
Emma Torgerson was born in Norway on July 24, 1874. She was baptized and confirmed and attended school in Norway. In August 1894 she came to New York City and shortly thereafter came to St. Ansgar where she made her home with the Rusley family, her cousins. Later she was instrumental in getting two sisters and two brothers to migrate to this country from Norway. Emma was noted as a good seamstress, and in earlier days went from home to home in St. Ansgar sewing for many families.
When her health began to fail a few years ago, she retired to nursing homes in Marble Rock and Osage. She died February 2 at the Osage Nursing home at the age of 88 years, six months and eight days.
The only survivors in this country are her cousins, Mrs. Ralph (Ruth) Bringolf of Houston, Texas; Ervin Rusley of Carrington, North Dakota. and Alfred Rusley of Memphis, Tennessee.
Preceding her in death were three sisters and two brothers.
Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery with Rev. Hamilton in charge of the committal services.

ST. ANSGAR, IOWA -- Funeral services for a life-long St. Ansgar resident, Emma Torgerson, 89, will be held Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church here. The Rev. Don Hamilton will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She died Saturday at an Osage nursing home.
Survivors include two cousins.
