OSAGE, IOWA - Mell Anthony Taets, age 54, of Grand Junction, Colo., and formerly of Osage, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Sept.25, 2012.

Mell Taets

(Died September 25, 2012)

Mell Anthony Taets, age 54, of Grand Junction, Colorado, and formerly of Osage, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 25, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, Iowa, with Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. There will be a time for lunch and fellowship following the Mass at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Osage.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mell’s favorite charity, Homeward Bound of the Grand Valley, 2853 North Avenue, Grand Junction, Colorado, 81501.

He was born on June 14, 1958, to George and Kay (Tracy) Taets of Osage, Iowa. Mell was named after his grandfather, Camiel (Mell) Taets. Mell graduated from Osage Community High School in 1976. He attended Iowa State University where he was an active member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and graduated in 1980. Mell became a banker following college and remained in this field his entire working life. Having worked in banking organizations in Mason City, Minneapolis, Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Sioux City and Grand Junction, Mell leaves behind long-standing personal and business relationships in each of these communities. Mell had the unique talent of making new acquaintances as well as bank clients into instant lifelong friends. Many substantial, well-known companies were created as a result of Mell’s business and lending expertise. In addition, Mell was one of the original founders of Timberline Bank and served on its board of directors. Mell worked at Timberline Bank up until the day of his death. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, bike riding, and hiking.

Mell is survived by his children, Emma and Claire Taets of West Des Moines; his loving friend, Carolyn Guillen of Grand Junction, Colorado; his parents, George and Kay Taets of Osage; brother, Mike (Kim) Taets of Basalt, Colorado; sister, Mary (Todd) Edgar of Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota; brothers, John (Doris) Taets of Fort Dodge, Joe (Julie) Taets of Decatur, Illinois, and Jeff (Londa) Taets of Grand Junction, Colorado; and by twelve nieces and nephews.
