Olava Marie Swain was born February 6, 1850, at Beredalen, Norway and died at her home near Otranto, November 6, 1913, being 63 years and 9 months. She was married in June 1871 to Evan M. Swain. This union was blessed with 3 children. They immigrated to America in 1876, and resided in Rock County, Wisconsin until 1885, when they came to Iowa and settled near Otranto. She had been failing in health for some time and on September 9, she was taken to St. Olaf's hospital at Austin but without any help. She died in peace and believed in God. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband and two children, her son, O.E. Swain , her daughter, Mrs. F.J. Priem and seven grandchildren and also one sister, Mrs. Ole Eidahl and four brothers, Henry of Kensett, John of Beloit, Wisconsin, Martin of Broadhead, Wisconsin, and Lars of Norway. The funeral was held on November 8, 1913 at the U.N.L. church and the U.N.L. cemetery by Rev. Urnes of Osage.
