Dorothy A. Jern, 97, of Albany died Feb. 15 of natural causes at the Mennonite Home.
She was born in Osage, Iowa. Dorothy attended college in Ames, Iowa, where she met her future husband, John Jern.
She worked at a local tea room after college to help support John through dental school. Dr. and Mrs. Jern moved to Albany in 1949, where they established their first dental practice.
Dr. and Mrs. Jern raised two sons, Joel and Ken, as well as their only daughter, Jackie, in Albany. Dorothy was always very involved in civic and social activities within the Albany community, including PEO, the Albany General Hospital Auxiliary, several book clubs, and Meals on Wheels. Dorothy will be greatly missed by her surviving family and community.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Joel Jern, Kenneth Jern and Jackie Jern; five grandchildren, Jarrett Jern, Molly Savoie, Hillary Kissack, Emily Woods and Jessica Jern; six great-grandchildren, Jack Woods, Ashley Woods, Kennedy Kissack, Mylie Buchanan, Mackenzie Kissack,and Cooper Kissack.
Per Dorothy’s request, there will be no service. Fisher Funeral Home is handling arrangements

Dorothy A Sponheim was born June 4, 1911 in Osage, Mitchell, Iowa, the daughter of Endre Sponheim and Johanna “Jennie” (Lund) Sponheim.
She married John August Jern, the son of Dr. John Hjalmer and Hannah Jern.
John August Jern was born September 3, 1912 in Illinois and died August 5, 1994 in Albany, Linn Co., Oregon.
