OSAGE, IOWA - Vera Ross, 94, of Osage, died on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at The Good Samaritan Nursing Home in St. Ansgar.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 29, at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City with the Rev. Paul Lippstock officiating. Visitation will be held at noon in the church. Immediately after the Mass, a luncheon will be served on the premises.
The burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Osage.

#2: NOTES:Vera Mae (O’Donnell) Miller Ross was born March 4, 1918 in Chickasaw County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Thomas O’Donnell and Beatrice (Wood) O’Donnell.
She married Wilbur George Miller, They were divorced in February 1945. Wilbur George Miller died January 17, 1957. He is buried in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Osage, Iowa.
In 1961 she married Leo Casper Ross, the son of August and Frances (Schilling) Ross at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. He died in 2002. He was buried in Sunnyside Memory Gardens Cemetery, Charles City, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2012, at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City with Rev. Paul Lippstock officiating. Visitation will be held at 12:00 noon in the church. Immediately following the mass, a luncheon will be served on the premises. The burial will be in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Osage.
Vera was born March 4, 1918, in Alta Vista, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Beatrice (Wood) O’Donnell. She was the third of six children. Vera had a daughter and two sons. She married Wilbur Miller (a building contractor) October 11, 1939. Wilbur passed away in 1957. On June 24, 1961, Vera married Leo Ross at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They lived in Osage and maintained the Ross family farm in Colwell. Leo passed away May 28, 2002. Vera was very active in the community. She was a Clerk at the Mitchell County Assessor’s Office from 1968 until she retired in 1981. She volunteered her time with the American Legion, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary from 1953 until 2001. She was an active parishioner at Sacred Heart Church, working with the Ladies Guild. She loved to laugh and dance and some of her hobbies included working crossword puzzles, refinishing furniture and attending to her garden.
Vera was a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a beloved grandmother. By her grandchildren she is fondly remembered for reading bedtime stories of Chicken Little and The Little Engine That Could, trips to the park, adventures on the farm, birthdays never missed and her frothy Root Beer Floats. She gave from the heart and for that we will be forever grateful.
Vera is survived by her son, Duane Miller of Alabama; daughter, Annette Bryan of Florida; eleven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many great grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; her son, Harold Miller; two brothers, Donald and Ronald and three sisters, Thelma Boehmer, Evelyn O’Donnell and Elaine Smith.
